> Activities ICT Training The SAGE training program had the following characteristics. It was free to anyone over 55 No previous computer experience was needed. The purpose of the project was to make people feel comfortable and confident using a computer. Teaching different levels of ability, from those who have never used a computer before, to those who want to update and consolidate existing computer skills. The ICT training courses for older citizens had the following structure: Timetable The half day workshops took place twice a week and took 2 to 3 hours depending on content. Individual Workshops 1. Introduction to using a computer 2. Introduction to word processing 3. Next steps word Processing 4. Introduction to the Internet 5. Using the World Wide Web 6. Saving information you find on the Web 7. Searching the Internet workshop 1 8. Searching the Internet workshop 2 9. Using email
Workshop Content These workshops covered the most commonly used office programs. The first two workshops were an introduction to using a computer with topics including mouse and keyboard use, using Windows, creating and finding files, printing and file management. There were ten other workshops, two of each covering Timetable: Twice a week 9.30 to 1pm • During the workshops there were demonstrations and explanations of each topic by the trainer and lots of hands-on practice. Drop-In Sessions Drop-in sessions for people who would like to use the computers to just keep their computer skills up to date. These sessions were intended for people to do their own work at their
own pace, with a trainer on hand to help out with any questions or problems.
They were very popular.
